Portraits of Faith and Tradition: The ‘Costaleros’ exhibition in Fatima

A look at the local tradition

On March 27, the Fatima Civic Center opened its doors to an exhibition that promises to excite all attendees. ‘Costaleros’, the work of the photographer Robert Domínguez i Ollé, invites us to discover the dedication and effort of the bearers of the Brotherhood of Fatima during the Easter processions.

A visual testimony of commitment

The exhibition not only represents a collection of portraits, but also tells the story of a group of people who, year after year, become the guardians of a rich and exciting tradition. The bearers, both men and women, gather in a gesture of solidarity that goes beyond religion, joining neighbors in the neighborhood and visitors who share this experience.

Caught unique moments

Dominguez’s images, full of life and intensity, reflect not only the time of the procession, but also the soul of a neighborhood that mobilizes in honor of its beliefs. Each step and expression are a testament to the deep connection between the bearers and their roots.

A collaborative project

The collaboration between the Brotherhood of Fatima and the Photographic Grouping of Igualada has been instrumental in making this exhibition a reality. With the support of the City Council, this initiative has become a cultural and social event that attracts the attention of lovers of photography and tradition.

Documenting the passion

In 2023, a group of photographers from the group made an exhaustive report on the rites of passion, thus providing a valuable historical archive on the Brotherhood. This exhibition seeks to give visibility to a celebration that enriches the life of the Fatima district and deserves to be known beyond its borders.

A unique exhibition

With a total of 144 photographs, the show presents the bearers in action, with a design that challenges the norm. The images, exposed in 16 x 25 format, are randomly arranged, a deliberate decision to reflect the chaotic and dynamic nature of the processions.

The Art of Night Photography

Dominguez had to face the challenge of photographing in low light, using the flames of the candles and the streetlights as the only source of lighting. This technique not only creates a special atmosphere, but also highlights the intensity of the event.

Robert Domínguez’s legat

With a trajectory that has been extended since 1974, Dominguez has dedicated his life to capturing the essence of Igualada through photography. His passion for documenting local culture and traditions are evident in each image, thus contributing to the visual heritage of the community.

The ‘Costaleros’ exhibition is not just a photographic exhibition; It is a celebration of collective identity, an invitation to reflect on the role that tradition and community play in our lives. With his unique gaze, Robert Domínguez reminds us of the importance of keeping the cultural legacy alive through generations.
