Preservation of the Name of Josep Borrell in the Passeig: PSC Demands Respect for Municipal Autonomy

The PSC’s Prayer to the Provincial Council of Lleida

The PSC group in the Diputació de Lleida has presented a plea in plenary this Thursday, urging the mayor of Pobla de Segur and provincial deputy, Marc Baró, to preserve the name of Josep Borrell on the promenade. This action occurs after the town council decided to change the name of the street on 1 October and the promenade to Paseo del Flamisell.

Reactions of the Socialist Deputy and Mayor Marc Baró

Socialist deputy Cristina Morón has expressed her regret at the fact that in a democracy there are parties that decide to remove the names of illustrious or relevant people in the country’s politics or culture. In addition, he has asked for respect and political stature in this matter. On the other hand, Marc Baró has defended the decision of the town council and has affirmed that the Provincial Council should not intervene in the sovereign decisions of the town councils and their citizens.

Demand for Respect for Municipal Autonomy

The PSC has urged to preserve the name of Josep Borrell on the promenade, asking for respect for municipal autonomy and reconsideration of the decision taken by the town council. This has generated a response from the mayor Marc Baró, defending the sovereignty of the councils and accusing the socialists of confusing administration and party, ignoring municipal autonomy.
