An initiative for Cleaning and Civics
In recent weeks, a new initiative has been underway in the historic center of the city, led by the Environment Unit of the Urban Guard (UMA) and the cleaning department. This campaign not only reports, but also imposes sanctions to remind the population of the importance of maintaining clean public space.
Control of breaches and sanctions
The cleaning counselor, Sonia Orts, emphasized that the main purpose of this campaign is to combat incivism and control unauthorized discharges. To date, about a hundred warnings have been recorded and 40 files have been started for breaches from the Citizen Coexistence Ordinance. Infractions, which include leaving garbage bags outside the authorized places, can lead to € 100 fines, increasing depending on the amount of waste poured out.
New in visual communication
As part of this strategy, posters have begun at critical points in the city to report on a ban on leaving the garbage. Areas such as the streets Civaderia and Riudecols have been identified as a focus of regular discharges and now have clear directions to deter this practice.
Improvements in waste collection
At the top, garbage collection is organized through several container islands that allow to separate waste into five categories: rest, organic, packaging, paper and cardboard, and glass. This system is complemented by moving bins that are placed daily at 7 pm, designed to facilitate the disposition of waste of people with reduced mobility.
Commercial collection and tourism
The commercial waste collection has been adapted to meet the needs of the restaurant and trade establishments, implementing a door -to -door service for the collection of glass and organic. In addition, the City Council is preparing a campaign focused on the owners of tourist flats, to address the situations of incivility that arise when visitors are not familiar with the rules of garbage collection.

With these measures, the City Council not only seeks to maintain cleaning in the historic center, but also to foster more responsible civic behavior among all citizens and visitors. Collaboration between the administration and the citizenry is essential to achieve a more pleasant and sustainable environment.
