A new focus on the recycling of glass containers
This year, the public cleaning department has launched an ambitious campaign focused on improving glass containers recycling, with the support of Ecovidrio. This initiative seeks to involve the city’s hotel, restaurant and coffee shops, with the aim of optimizing the management of waste generated.
Personalized visits to establishments
A team of two environmental educators is conducting surveys and interviews with more than 1,200 establishments for a period of four months. This action will allow to know the specific needs of each premises to provide them with resources that facilitate recycling.
Training on recycling
The establishments receive exhaustive information on the correct separation of glass containers and the associated benefits, both social and environmental. In addition, specific actions are being carried out in key areas of the city, such as the Part Alta, where a free door -to -door collection service has been offered since 2011.
Positive results of the above initiatives
Minister Sonia Orts emphasized the success of past initiatives and the goal of continuing with the same spirit in 2025. The previous year, the department conducted multiple awareness campaigns and selective collection, with a very positive response from the citizenry.
Prominent actions
Some of the actions include: the establishment of more than 10 information points in the city, where leaflets on waste services and recycling kits were distributed; Regular follow -up of the commercial collection services; and an environmental education program that has involved 85 workshops for children.
Innovative initiatives against waste
One of the most remarkable projects has been the creation of a guide to good practices for waste reduction, accompanied by the distribution of reusable lunch boxes in the restaurants on the coast. This campaign, called ‘We take the pan by the handle’, has won excellent reception among the participating establishments.
Involvement of restaurants
Many restaurants have taken measures such as offering leftover food to take away and manage the vegetable oil used in a responsible way. The clients’ response has been very positive, with a significant number of lunch boxes for reuse.
The future of recycling in schools and neighborhoods of Ponent
By 2025, the Public Cleaning Department has plans to strengthen awareness of recycling between shops and hotel establishments. Also, the environmental education program in schools will be intensified to promote awareness among young people.
Actions to the West
Collaborating with Ecovidrio, a new campaign will be started in the West, which will include a visit to more than 30,000 homes to report on the benefits of recycling glass containers. Educators will deliver materials and make personalized visits to promote the proper separation of waste.
