A summer in Marivent
Queen Emeritus Sofia has imminent plans to move to the island of Mallorca. As is customary every summer, she will stay in Marivent for several weeks, getting away from the day-to-day obligations related to the royal family. This year, as on previous occasions, she will be accompanied by her sister, Irene of Greece.
Attempts to reunite the family
In the past, Sofía had tried to organize a family gathering in Marivent. According to different media outlets, the queen was planning the visit of her daughters and grandchildren, coinciding with the presence of Kings Felipe VI and Letizia, as well as Princess Leonor, Infanta Sofía, and Infantas Elena and Cristina. along with their respective children. There was even talk of the possibility of King Emeritus Juan Carlos I joining this meeting. Since 2018, the entire family has not been seen together in one photo.
Obstacles in the family unit
Despite their intentions, Kings Felipe VI and Letizia prevented other family members from attending Marivent during Sofia and Irene’s stay. Although some of her daughters and some of her grandchildren were able to visit her, this happened when the central core of the royal family was not present.
The desire to bring everyone together
It is rumored that Sofía will make another effort this time to try to reunite her family. According to some close friends, this desire represents a deep desire of Felipe VI’s mother, especially because the opportunities to carry out this meeting are limited. However, the possibility of this meeting seems distant, since the kings have communicated that the princesses and their children will not be able to be present in Marivent during their stay.
Concern for Irene’s health
However, what really worries Sofía currently is not only the family reunion, but the state of health of her sister Irene from Greece. The health of ‘Aunt Pecu’, as she is affectionately called in her close circle, has become the main concern of the queen emeritus and the rest of her family.
The strength of your bond
Since 1981, the year in which Queen Federica, their mother, died, Irene has not been separated from Sofia. Currently, the queen emerita is very concerned about the physical and mental well-being of her sister, since Irene has recently been seen using a wheelchair. Rumors have also emerged about mental health issues related to memory loss.
