Reflections after the incidents of the Renaissance Festival

An unfortunate night at the celebration

We deeply regret what happened on the recent night of the Renaissance Festival. We consider it essential that the government team promotes a harmonious relationship between the entities that make this event possible to prevent similar situations in the future.

The participation of local entities

The municipal group of Junts per Tortosa is not equivalent to either the Colla Jove or the group of Abanderats, which are cultural associations with their own identity and a solid history in the city. They have full legitimacy to do what their members consider appropriate. In fact, they decided to perform once the event concluded, after being excluded from the performance scheduled for the closing. It is crucial that the freedom of each association to express itself according to its criteria is respected.

The politicization of culture

Mr. Jordan is the one who really politicizes the entities by removing the standard bearers from the last part of the act without any justification. This group has worked throughout the year to enhance the Renaissance Festival and has contributed to the international projection of the event and the city of Tortosa. Furthermore, a politicization of the event is observed when what happened last night is used to attack the municipal group of Junts per Tortosa. We are concerned that the local government is inciting confrontation between local associations.

Responsibility of the current government

Blaming the opposition for an incident unrelated to Junts per Tortosa reveals a lot about the current administration. In the 26 previous editions, with different municipal governments, there had never been a setback during the Renaissance Festival. Junts per Tortosa has not been involved in this episode in any way.

Management of the celebration

Attributing responsibilities to the opposition does not solve the organizational problems. It is again the government that evades its responsibilities, instead of ensuring that the party goes off without a hitch, as had been usual. This is not the time to evaluate the management of the government team in relation to the Renaissance Festival; There will be opportunities to discuss and contrast our vision of the event in the context of what we have witnessed in these days.

Defense of the Renaissance Festival

We reject any accusation that is not fair, and we do not want Junts per Tortosa to be used as a shield to hide the ineptitude of the current government. The responsibility of organizing the Renaissance Festival falls to Mr. Jordan’s government, and until now, we have never experienced a problem with this event.

Constant commitment to the event

At Junts per Tortosa we have always supported the Renaissance Festival, we have promoted it and encouraged its growth. We are saddened by the attempt to divert responsibility towards us for the ineffectiveness of its management. More than a year in power means that the burden of governing falls exclusively on the current government. We demand that they stop acting like the opposition of the opposition.
