Reflections on democratic inheritance in the Terres de l’Ebre

A legacy of value and endurance

In conversations with politics veterans, a phrase that deeply resonates: ‘Keeping the connection with the past is vital.’ This idea was shared by a deputy with years of experience who experienced crucial moments in Tarragona after the dictatorship.

The story does not forget

The memories of those turbulent days teach us that repression had devastating consequences for those who defended an ideal of equality and freedom. Many of those who were part of the Diputación were victims of a system that did not tolerate dissent, with most of its persecuted members and, in some cases, simply executed by their political affiliation.

A connective thread with the present

The struggle for a fairer society unites us all. This inheritance must not only be remembered, but also strongly defended. It is crucial that those who hold public positions maintain this living legacy, prioritizing democratic values over budget issues or power distribution.

A mandate full of learning

After almost six years as a Member of the PSC, I reflect on my experience with gratitude. I have been honored to represent the voices of the drunken counties, regardless of the political color of each city council. My action has been guided by a commitment to the general welfare of the citizenry.

The Diputación: a hidden treasure

Unfortunately, the Diputación is often seen as an institution unknown to the population. However, those of us who have been fortunate to be part of it, we can attest to their enormous potential for local development, with resources that are vital to many small towns.

A common front for the future

It is essential that all representatives of our counties collaborate to defend the interests of the region, beyond the acronym of our parties. This unit does not involve forming a ‘lobby’, but seeks joint action that strengthens our capacity for influence.

Respect and dialogue: key to politics

During the plenary in which I announced my resignation, I received an unexpected support from all political groups, a gesture that I deeply value. In a time when politics often becomes a terrain of confrontation, it is essential to promote respect and dialogue as pillars of our coexistence.

An unchanged commitment

Although I go to a new phase as a Government Delegate in the Terres de l’Ebre, my commitment to society is still intact. My mission will continue to defend the values that I have learned and always keep this red thread that symbolizes my dedication to democracy.
