Reflections on journalism in the digital age

A trip in time: students and radio

It was a Tuesday morning, and the sun shone with a summer warmth, a distant feeling of that fall day when he had tried to connect with students about the radio world. That first attempt with a group of second -year young people seemed like a mirage; Most did not know the iconic radio programs that defined the country’s communicative scene.

A different scenario: the current generation

After three years, I was in a classroom full of third -year students, a larger and perhaps more experienced group, but my hope was quickly believing. Asking about the news of the day, the answer was disappointing: only some comments on time and a football game. The lack of interest in information made me reflect on their relationship with the media.

The challenge of credibility

The credibility of journalism is not only an abstract concept; It is a fundamental pillar that must be fed with values such as honesty, veracity and commitment to society. In a world where information is consumed at a dizzying rate, the need to contrast and verify data is more crucial than ever.

A transformative course

With an entire course ahead, I decided to take this opportunity to deepen the true essence of journalism. Through discussions and case analysis, I presented their responsibilities and the impact they can have on society. I presented concepts such as the journalist’s moral contract and the importance of an independent press.

Materials i Referents

To enrich their training, we analyzed documentaries and films that portray the world of journalism, as well as readings by contemporary authors that bring new perspectives to communicative discourse. This immersion in critical thinking aroused a renewed interest among students.

A new hope

As we advanced in the course, I noticed a change in the attitude of my students. His curiosity and his commitment to journalism intensified. At the end of the course, I left with a sense of optimism. Communication, despite its difficulties, is still an essential pillar in our society.

The future of journalism

With the rise of social media and new technologies, journalism has adapted and reinvented. The need to provide reliable and proven information is more relevant than ever, and the ability of journalism to evolve will determine its role in future society. Credibility, however, requires constant effort and an unexpected dedication.

In this changing environment, journalism must remain firm in its principles, because truth and transparency are the foundations of an informed and committed society.
