Rehabilitation of the old convent of the Palau dels Comtes complex in Castelló

The Town Council of Castelló d’Empúries begins the procedures for the rehabilitation of the old convent

Castelló d’Empúries City Council has approved the urgent tender for the renovation works of the old church of Sant Domènec (XV-XVII) which will become a multipurpose room with capacity for 300 and 500 people. This decision has been taken to ensure that there are no delays and not to risk losing a grant of one million euros from the Next Generation funds (https://www.softcatala.org/resum-de- texts-in-Catalan/). The project has a cost of 3.9 million euros and is expected to begin in June with the archaeological excavations.

The historical value of the Palau dels Comtes

The building that will be rehabilitated forms part of the Palau dels Comtes and is considered a National Historic Monument protected by law 13/5/33. This project will make it possible to discover and dignify the original building, thus recovering very important values in the heritage field.

A project selected by public participation

The performance that will be carried out was selected in a municipal competition and chosen by citizen participation. It consists of a comprehensive intervention of the old church and party hall to adapt it as a multipurpose room.

A significant investment

The project has a total cost of 3.9 million euros, of which 2.3 million will be allocated in 2024 and the rest until reaching 3.9 million in 2025.

Benefits for the region

The rehabilitation of the old convent and the creation of a multipurpose room will allow more quality cultural activities to be carried out, providing benefits in the historical, heritage and economic spheres. It is expected that this investment will help bring more visitors to the region (https://www.softcatala.org/resum-de-textos-en-catala/).
