Residents question the discriminatory treatment they perceive, as they claim that renting a storage room is more expensive than having a terrace in this area.
According to complaints, the fees for a 30-meter terrace on Bretón de los Herreros street, category 1, cost around 53 euros, while in Parliament Square, category 5, the cost is about 22 euros. This has led to complaints about non-compliance with municipal bylaws in relation to terraces, demanding an immediate review of them.
Non-compliance and claims
The Platform Demands the Old Town has highlighted the non-compliance with the ordinances by the hospitality industry, pointing out a spirit of impunity and predation in the historic center. Undue occupation of public space, excess use of furniture, noise, improper consumption outside the terraces, among others, have been mentioned.
Furthermore, the cost of renting a terrace has been compared with that of a storage room in the area, highlighting that it is more expensive for a resident of Logroño to rent a storage room than ten tables for a hotelier. This situation has generated concern among residents, who believe that an indiscriminate and almost free occupation of public roads is being allowed.
Claim for review of ordinances
The neighborhood platform demands an immediate review of the municipal terrace ordinance, demanding a drastic reduction of the spaces occupied by the hospitality industry. The need to guarantee citizens’ rest as a fundamental right is highlighted, instead of allowing a lack of control in the use of public space.
Proliferation of high tables
Another point of conflict is the installation of high tables and barrels in the chiquiteo areas of the Old Town. It has been reported that these tables, whose unit cost is 27.9 euros per year, are hindering access to neighbors’ doorways and violating regulations that limit their use exclusively to the facades of establishments.
Call for review of regulations
Given this situation, the neighborhood platform has reiterated its call for an immediate review of the municipal terrace ordinance, requesting a reduction in the spaces occupied by hospitality and a stricter limitation on the use of furniture in public areas.
