Research impulse: 1 million euros for the URV

A new chapter in the collaboration between the Diputación and the URV

The Diputación de Tarragona has decided to invest one million euros in a total of eleven research and knowledge initiatives linked to the Rovira i Virgili University (URV) this year. This investment is part of an agreement that will extend until 2027, maintaining the same budget as in the previous year.

Aula Magna reform: a space for all

Among the outstanding projects, the renewal of the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Education and Psychology Sciences is brought most of the budget, with an allocation of 679,841 euros. The rector of the URV, Josep Pallarès, emphasized that this space will not only serve the academic community, but will be available to all citizens, facilitating the holding of cultural congresses and activities.

A meeting place for community

Pallarès said that the new Aula Magna, with independent access to the Faculty, aims to be a meeting point for scientific and cultural initiatives, expanding the opportunities for social and educational interaction.

Infrastructural improvements and impulse to research

The supramunicipal body will cover 46.23% of the cost of the classroom works, which is located on the Sescelades Campus. The University currently has a single Aula Magna on the Campus Catalunya, which has become insufficient for the current demand, as it is ‘oversaturada’.

Future projects and strategic investments

The renovation work, which is expected to be completed in February 2026, also include energy improvements in a building with a long historical route. The university community will see these changes reflected with an increase in reception capabilities for international congresses.

Economic contribution for various projects

In addition to the reform of the Aula Magna, the Diputación allocates the resources to a diversity of projects that cover areas such as health, economics and sustainability. President Noemí Llauradó said that this contribution results in a co -financing that can reach up to 85% for investments.

Contributions to innovative initiatives

Among the funded initiatives are the Triennial Plan of Actions of the URV Social Council, as well as projects focused on tourist innovation and the training in simulation for health professionals.

Territorial balance and social commitment

Llauradó emphasized the importance of guaranteeing a ‘territorial balance’ through investments, which extend from the Terres de l’Ebre to the Penedès. This strategy seeks to maximize the impact of projects and their relevance to the community.

Long -term vision

With the aim of consolidating the URV as a reference center, Pallarès has expressed the desire to concentrate efforts on projects that have a greater impact, thus improving the visibility of the University and the territory internationally.
