The initial chaos: a complicated morning for drivers
The first day of work after the weekend has brought unpleasant surprises for many motorists who used the Rovira tunnel in the direction of the sea. On Monday, a large number of vehicles encountered the closed road, unaware of the alternative routes that had been previously connected to avoid the works.
Despite the unexpected situation, traffic remained surprisingly fluid during the morning hours, considering that this road is passed by approximately 18,000 vehicles daily. A driver who usually passes through here expressed his frustration: ‘I have been very affected by the cut.’
Aid measures and informative for users
From the first hour, agents of the Guàrdia Urbana have been present to manage traffic and provide useful information to drivers. In addition, a team in charge of distributing information brochures and alternative routes available has been deployed.
Duration and impact of the works
The tunnel will be closed for a period of four months in a descending direction to make improvements in safety and paving. In contrast, the circulation in ascending direction remains normal, with a flow of vehicles without incident. However, nocturnal restrictions will continue to be applied from Sunday to Thursday as planned.
Increased traffic on the surrounding routes
Although traffic in the immediate area of the tunnel remains relatively fluid, a significant increase in vehicles in adjacent roads has been observed, such as Avenida de la Mare de Déu de Montserrat, which has experienced an increase in density.
Strategies to improve circulation
To mitigate the chaos, it has been decided to eliminate the loads and downloads on Tajo Street, a measure that aims to facilitate circulation in descending direction.
Navigation problems: Google Maps in Confusion
Another obstacle for drivers is that Google Maps may not offer the best route. The navigation system may be incorrectly interpreted that both senses of the tunnel are closed, suggesting much longer and complicated itineraries for those who need access to the area.
Viable alternatives per avoid the tall
Vehicles traveling along the Statute Avenue can connect with Lisbon, Tajo and Paseo de Maragall Street, reaching Sant Antoni Maria Claret. In addition, drivers who use departure 3 of the Ronda de Dalt in the direction of Llobregat or exit 4 towards Besòs, can follow a route that includes the square of Karl Marx, the Paseo de Valldaura, the Plaza de la República and other adjacent streets.
Impact on public transport
Traffic restrictions also affect three bus lines: V21, 102 and 112. The V21 line will change its route through Paseo de Maragall, while line 102 will make adjustments to its stops to facilitate traffic. Finally, line 112 will modify part of its journey by moving the origin and end to Porto Street.
