Reus: a safe and growing city

Reus maintains security at exceptional levels

The city of Reus has, once again, achieved its crime rates below the Catalan average. This positive trend was confirmed during the recent meeting of the Local Security Board, held on March 14 at the Municipal Palace, with the presence of prominent local authorities and security.

An effective polycial pattern

Reus’s security strategy, focusing on prevention and collaboration between different police forces, has proven effective. The Mayor, Sandra Guaita, and others in charge discussed the methods that have contributed to this stability, such as proximity to the community and the intense police presence.

2024 crime data

The statistics of 2024 indicate that Reus records 62.74 crimes per 1,000 inhabitants, slightly below 64.88 in Catalonia. Despite an increase of 5% in crime, this increase is partly due to a higher police activity that has allowed to detect more incidents.

Types of crime

Crimes against heritage are still the most common, representing 75% of the total. However, some of theft robberies have decreased significantly, including a 40% decrease in business robberies, which is a encouraging signal for citizen security.

Increased vehicle robberies

A worrying look is the increase of 24.1% in the robberies inside vehicles. Authorities recommend that citizens be cautious and not to leave visible objects within vehicles to avoid these incidents.

Proximity and collaboration actions

Proximity is one of the fundamental pillars of the security model in Reus. In 2024, more than 6,500 local patrols were made, a significant increase that emphasizes the efforts of the Guàrdia Urbana in its commitment to the community.

Joint devices

Collaboration between security forces has been key. The Guàrdia Urbana has participated in numerous joint operations with the Mossos d’Esquadra, focused on citizen security and the regulation of traffic.

Incidents and civility in Reus

Infractions for incivism have experienced a general decrease, with a significant decrease in behaviors such as drug use and street urination. However, neighborhood noises have increased, indicating that there are still areas to improve.

Reflections on the future

With a positive security balance, Reus continues to work to guarantee a safe environment for its citizens. Collaboration between the authorities and the community will be essential to maintain these standards in the coming years.
