Reus promotes agricultural training through urban gardening

A new deal for practical training

Reus City Council has decided to open its green areas to students from the Institute of Horticulture and Gardening, thus allowing them to apply the knowledge acquired in their curriculum. This initiative, signed by the councilor of Via Pública, Daniel Marcos Cruz, and the director of the center, Raimon Martí, seeks to establish a stronger link between education and the world of work.

The value of collaboration

The signing of this agreement marks a turning point, as it recovers a relationship that had been put on the back burner. With this new alliance, it is expected that students of the professional training program in middle and higher education cycles will be able to develop their skills in real contexts, such as the maintenance of gardens and green spaces in the city.

A bet for a green future

Mayor Sandra Guaita emphasized that this agreement not only benefits the students, but also strengthens the city’s goal of promoting a greener and more sustainable environment. According to Guaita, “the commitment to the formation and quality of Reus’ green spaces is a priority, as this contributes to environmental health and the well-being of citizens.”

Practical activities available to students

Students will be able to work on a wide range of tasks, including garden maintenance, tree pruning and ornamental plant care. These activities will be carried out in the green areas managed by the Municipal Brigades, always under the supervision of teaching staff to guarantee the smooth running of municipal operations.

The Institute of Horticulture, pioneer in Reus

The Institute of Horticulture and Gardening in Reus is positioned as the first integrated professional training center in the city, thanks to a recent agreement with IMFE Mas Carandell. This initiative aims to ensure that students have access to quality training that allows them to develop in the agricultural sector.

A sector in constant evolution

With a long-term approach, the institute seeks to be a benchmark in the training of professionals in the agricultural sector, ensuring that the knowledge acquired is relevant to the current labor market. This is fundamental for the local economy of Reus and Baix Camp, which depends to a large extent on this sector.

Recognize the city’s achievements

Reus has recently been recognized with the highest award in the Vilas Florides contest, which celebrates the efforts of municipalities to transform their public spaces. This recognition, which includes four flowers of honor, highlights the quality of public gardening and civic-tourism initiatives to promote the use of green spaces.

With this new agreement and the successes achieved, Reus positions itself as a city that not only cares for its environment, but also commits to the training and development of future professionals in the agricultural sector.
