Robert Lewandowski seeks to be the only forward in Barça

Lewandowski wants to be the only ‘9’

Robert Lewandowski has made it clear that he does not want competition in his forward position at Barça. According to sources close to the player, Lewandowski wants to be the only alternative for the ‘9’ position and play practically every minute. He has even expressed his preference for having a young replacement on the team, as long as he accepts a secondary role and does not jeopardize his status as the undisputed starter. This decision has led the player to prohibit Joan Laporta and Deco from signing a renowned striker who could challenge him for his position.

Barça’s plans are affected

This position by Lewandowski has disrupted Barça’s plans, which were looking to sign a striker to counter the winner of The Best 2020. Several names had been considered, such as Alexander Sörloth, Benjamin Sesko, Alexander Isak or Darwin Núñez. However, the favorite was Artem Dovbyk, with whom advanced talks had already begun. Although negotiations with his club still remained, the board and coach Hans-Dieter Flick had given the go-ahead to his signing.

Lewandowski vets Dovbyk

However, Lewandowski has made it clear that he does not want to share a dressing room with Dovbyk and has vetoed his signing. This decision has forced Barça to paralyze negotiations and look for other alternatives to strengthen their lead.
