Saint George’s Celebrations: A literary journey to Sitges

A tradition that unites

On April 23, the city of Sitges will be transformed into a space where literature and nature merge to celebrate St. George’s Day. With the promotion of the Department of Culture, a series of activities have been designed that seek to strengthen the ties with this emblematic festival that stands out for its union of books and flowers.

Saint George’s Fair: A Market full of life

The Sant Jordi Fair, located on Paseo de la Ribera, will be one of the nerve points of the day. From 10am to 8pm, visitors will enjoy stalls full of books and roses, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere. This fair is not only a commercial space, but also a meeting place for literature lovers.

Signatures d’Autors Locals

One of the most anticipated moments of the day will be the opportunity to know and interact with local authors. Several writers, such as Lídia Gázquez and Florenci Salesas, will offer signature sessions, allowing readers to connect with their works and discover new literary voices.

Cultural and musical activities

In addition to the fair, the day will be full of cultural events. The Sitges Canta choir will offer a concert at 6.30 pm, while the traditional sardana dance, by the Cobla Maricel, will end the celebration with a performance at 8:15 p.m.

St. George’s speech: an inspirational voice

On the eve of the Day, on April 22, it will be marked by the proclamation of Sant Jordi, by Mar González, a recognized publisher in the world of children’s literature. This event will be held on the terraces of the Santiago Rusiñol Library and promises to inspire all the attendees.

The continuous program

The celebrations will not end on April 23. On April 26, Casino Prado will host a literary breakfast that will pay tribute Pompeu Fabra. This event will include a dramatization of his life and a debate on the legacy of the Catalan language.

Literary and artistic activities

From 5 to 8 p.m., the Auditorium of the Miramar-Cultural Center will be the scene of ‘Sitges en verse’, a celebration that will combine music, dance and poetry, focusing on the Virgin of Montserrat. At the same time, the Gothic Room of the Maricel Museum will host a reading marathon, with which it seeks to promote the love of reading among adults.

A future full of culture

With this rich offer of activities, Sitges reaffirms its commitment to culture and literature, emphasizing the importance of Saint George’s Day as a time of union and celebration. The city hopes to welcome all those who want to live an unforgettable day full of emotion and creativity.
