Spain is preparing for a radical change in temperatures

An unusually warm January

During this month of January, Spain has experienced surprisingly mild weather, with temperatures exceeding 20 degrees in several locations. This circumstance has generated a feeling of early spring, with minimums rarely falling below 10 degrees.

Farewell to the heat: an imminent change

According to meteorologist Roberto Brasero, this period of warm temperatures is about to end. Starting Saturday night, a significant drop in temperatures is expected, marking the return of the winter cold.

Sunday: a day marked by frost

On Sunday morning, many inland areas are expected to wake up to frost, especially in the northeastern half of the country. These conditions, more common for mid-January, will be especially severe in mountainous areas such as the Pyrenees and the Iberian system.

A reminder of winter

After the spring temperatures we have enjoyed, Sunday will remind us that we are in the middle of winter. Maximums are expected to be between 6 and 8 degrees lower than Saturday’s, with a cool atmosphere throughout the peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

Sunday: sun and coolness

Brasero points out that, despite the presence of the sun, Sunday will be a frosty day. The afternoon will feel noticeably colder, contrasting with the pleasant temperatures of the previous days. This variation brings us back to the conditions that used to dominate at the end of 2024.

Weather fluctuations and preparations

The mild temperatures we have recently experienced are an anomaly and, as the impending change shows, winter still has a lot to say. Experts recommend that the population be prepared to face the cold, especially in those regions where frosts will be most noticeable.
