Spain prepares for extreme heat: alert for record temperatures

The weather becomes unbearable

As the week progresses, Spain is headed for an exceptionally hot spell. Thermometers are expected to climb, possibly triggering the fourth heat wave this summer, although there is no official confirmation from weather authorities yet.

Extreme temperatures on the horizon

The last few days have marked a noticeable increase in temperatures in a large part of the country. However, the heat is expected to reach even higher levels from Friday, with the arrival of a warm air mass that could set new records.

Affected areas

The Guadalquivir, Guadiana, Tajo and Ebre valleys will be the most affected, with temperatures that could exceed 40 degrees. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has already issued orange warning notices for extreme heat in several regions, including Granada, Córdoba and Jaén.

Sweltering nights and high minimum temperatures

From Thursday, the heat will spread northwards, with a widespread increase from Friday. The nights will also be unbearable, with lows not falling below 20 degrees in much of the center and south of the country, and even exceeding 25 degrees on the Mediterranean coast.

Sunday, the warmest day

Sunday is shaping up to be the hottest day of the week, with several areas that could register over 40 degrees. Cities such as Córdoba, Bilbao and Zaragoza could reach 43 degrees, while Granada and Toledo could reach 42.

A worrying scenario

Despite the intensity of the heat forecast for Friday and the weekend, it has yet to be confirmed whether it will be an official heat wave. The lack of significant thermal relief in recent weeks may make the situation look like a continuous heat wave.

Spain is in a state of alert for the imminent heat wave, with extreme temperatures that can affect both the population and the infrastructure. It is essential to stay informed and take the appropriate precautionary measures to deal with the oncoming heat wave.
