A change of perspective on immigration in Spain
Recently, the opinions of Spanish citizens have begun to show a clear preference for a more controlled immigration model. According to a new survey conducted by GESOP for Premsa Ibérica, a remarkable 70% of the population expresses their desire to manage the arrival of immigrants in an orderly manner. This shift in public opinion reflects a growing concern about migratory dynamics and their social implications.
Political and generational differences
The survey results also reveal significant variations according to political affiliations. PP and PSOE voters show notable support for regulated immigration, with percentages ranging between 75% and 80%. In contrast, Vox voters are less favorable, with only 55.3% agreeing with this view. Junts voters, on the other hand, are the most favorable to the immigration order, with an impressive 90% supporting this idea.
The perspective of young people versus adults
In terms of age, the data is equally revealing. Among young people aged 18 to 29, 62.4% are in favor of orderly immigration, a figure that drops slightly among young adults aged 30 to 44, with support at 59.1%. Interestingly, older citizens, especially those over 60, show even higher support, with 76.8% in favor of regulation.
Immigration as a central topic of debate
This trend towards orderly immigration is a clear indication that the migration issue has become a priority not only on the political agenda, but also in the public conversation. The perception of the state’s inability to control migratory flows has contributed to this concern. In Catalonia, for example, a recent study indicated that many citizens considered migration laws to be excessively permissive.
A look into the future
With immigration as a hot topic in society, it is clear that current policies need to be reconsidered to address citizens’ concerns. The demand for a more structured migration system can be an opportunity for dialogue and the search for solutions that benefit both immigrants and the host society.
