Strategic Collaboration: Tarragona and the URV Promote the Sustainable Future

Synergies between the Port and the University

Recently, the Rovira i Virgili University (URV) and the Tarragona Port Authority held a constructive meeting in the APT-URV Commission, led by Santiago Castellà, president of the Port, and Josep Pallarès, rector of the URV. This meeting has been fundamental in establishing a collaboration that seeks to enhance the territory through joint actions.

Training and Knowledge: Main Axes of Collaboration

One of the central points addressed was the importance of training. Several initiatives have been proposed to promote research and knowledge transfer in areas of mutual interest. This commitment to training includes the creation of master’s degrees focused on hydrogen and decarbonization technologies, with the aim of preparing professionals for the challenges of the future.

University Pills for Professionals

In addition, the possibility of developing specific training pills for Port Authority staff and the port community, in collaboration with local companies and training institutes, has been discussed. These short training sessions could address diverse topics and be a useful tool for updating knowledge and skills.

Tarragona as a Pillar of the H2ValleyCAT

The meeting also highlighted the importance of Tarragona as the hub of the H2ValleyCAT project, a strategic initiative for Catalonia. Participants agreed on the need for more robust governance that integrates both public and private interests to ensure the success of this innovative project.

Establishing Connections for the Future

Beyond the specific initiatives, this commission has served to strengthen the ties between the two institutions. The interaction has allowed both parties to learn first-hand about the strategies that will guide the development of both the Port and the University, with the aim of generating a positive impact in the region.

Key Participants in the Meeting

The committee has had the prominent presence of key figures, such as the rector Josep Pallarès and several vice-rectors of the URV, as well as the president Santiago J. Castellà Surribas and other senior officials of the Port Authority. This diversity of perspectives ensures that the proposed initiatives respond to the needs of the territory.

A Future Full of Possibilities

With this collaboration, Tarragona positions itself as a key player in the energy transition and specialized training, with an eye on a sustainable and innovative future that benefits the entire community.
