Tarraco Viva: An unforgettable journey to ancient Rome

Closing of the Festival with a fresh look

The Sunday day marked the end of the 27th edition of the Tarraco Viva Festival, with the closing ceremony entitled ‘Much more than bread and wine. A different view of the history of the Roman plebs’. This activity brought together almost 300 attendees, focusing on the exploration of the daily life of Roman plebs, a group that is often forgotten, who, contrary to traditional perceptions, was a dynamic group, committed to its craft and a strong interest in politics.

A year of records and growth

Although the official assistance data has not been published, the festival organization has expressed its satisfaction with the high concurrence. It has been sold virtually all tickets for payment activities, with an absolute full in conferences, workshops and recreations.

A special birthday and a diverse audience

This edition of the festival coincided with the 25th anniversary of the Tarraco Declaration as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In addition, a significant increase in visitors from other regions of Spain, including Valencia, Madrid and the Basque Country, as well as international and premises in Catalonia, has been noticed.

Activities in various scenarios

Throughout the two weeks of the festival, around 400 successful activities have been carried out. The Costa de Port de Tarragona wharf was the main place during the first weekend, while the gardens of Camp de Mart hosted the events of the second weekend. Other emblematic locations in the city, such as the Praetorium, the Amphitheater and the Walls, were also scenarios of various activities.

Collaboration of multiple localities

The festival not only involved Tarragona, but also included the participation of neighboring municipalities such as Cambrils, Vila-rodona, Reus, Salou, Constantí, the Pallaresos and, for the first time, Torredembarra.

The future of the festival: decided by the public

One of the novelties of this year is that the theme of the next edition of the 2026 Festival will be chosen by the public. In the coming days, a consultation will open to allow attendees suggesting topics that will be considered for the programming.

Opinions of the organizers

The Mayor of Tarragona, Rubén Viñuales, emphasized the relevance of the festival, considering it a ‘world reference’ in historical dissemination. He has invited everyone to visit the city not only during the festival, but throughout the year, emphasizing the rich cultural heritage it offers.

The director of the festival, Magí Seritjol, expressed his satisfaction with the result of this edition, both for the assistance and the organization. He emphasized the importance of combining new technologies with the knowledge of the past, saying that history is an essential tool for facing future challenges. He also thanked the institutions and the more than a thousand people who have made this event possible.
