Tarragona boosts social journalism with a renewed award

A new chapter in health journalism

The city of Tarragona has become the center of attention for journalists committed to health and social rights, thanks to the new edition of the Health and Social Rights Journalism Award. This initiative seeks to highlight and recognize the work of professionals who, through their work, bring knowledge and visibility to topics that are often ignored.

Bases and opportunities for journalists

The director general of the Xarxa Santa Tecla, Joan Maria Adserà, and Esteve Giralt, president of the Tarragona Region of the College of Journalists of Catalonia, have presented the new conditions for participating in this award. Those interested have until February 15, 2025 to send their proposals, which must be works published during the year 2024.

A success that wants to be repeated

The first edition of this award managed to bring together 31 works with a high level of quality and diversity. Giralt has expressed the wish that this year the award will be even more recognized at Catalan level, and has urged journalists from outside the demarcation to participate.

Featured awards and categories

With a total endowment of 5,000 euros, the prize is divided into two categories: the Health and Social Rights Category, which offers 3,000 euros, and the Local Category, with 2,000 euros. The first is open to work on health and social rights in Catalonia, while the second is specific to journalists from Camp de Tarragona.

Participation requirements and deadlines

The works must be published in any type of media during 2024 and must be in Catalan or translated into Catalan. The award is scheduled for spring 2025.

The commitment to rigorous information

Giralt has highlighted the importance of rigorously treating issues related to health and social services, stressing that the award represents an opportunity to raise the quality of journalism in this area. Adserà has reaffirmed the commitment of the Santa Tecla Network to the journalistic profession, considering its work as a source of information for society fundamental.

A collaboration for the future

The call for the prize is part of a collaboration agreement between the Santa Tecla Network and the College of Journalists of Catalonia, with the aim of promoting initiatives that benefit journalism and the media sector in Camp de Tarragona. This alliance seeks not only to recognize the work of journalists, but also to promote quality communication that has a positive impact on society.
