Security strategy during the holidays
On the occasion of the Santa Tecla festivities, Tarragona has seen an intensified deployment of security forces, focused on the prevention of the possession of white weapons. Sub-inspector Jordi Colomé, responsible for the regional operational shift, has confirmed that more than fifty police units patrol the city every night.
Identification points and random searches
Officers have established several identification points to carry out random searches, with the aim of detecting suspicious behaviour. Colomé emphasized that the deterrent effect of this device is palpable, with provisional data showing a notable decrease in incidents.
Advanced command center
For the first time, the new advanced command center located on Carrer Sant Agustí has been essential for the coordination of the operation. This infrastructure allows for more effective supervision, with real-time images provided by drones and security cameras.
Security and collaboration priorities
In addition to preventing the use of white weapons, the sub-inspector has highlighted the importance of protecting the freedom and safety of those attending the parties. The canine unit of the Urban Guard also actively participates in the detection of illegal substances, guaranteeing a safe environment.
Positive results so far
After two weekends of festive activities, incidents have been kept to a minimum. In recent actions, officers have made identifications, including penalties for drug possession and arrests for theft, reflecting a quick and effective response to potential crimes.
Future of security in Tarragona
This year’s police deployment has proven to be a model of success, with a notable absence of armed people. Colomé has expressed his confidence that this approach, combined with civic responsibility, will continue to contribute to safe parties in Tarragona.
