Tarragona is preparing for a new innovation hub

A proposal with ambition

The Union of Entrepreneurs of Tarragona (EDT) has recently delivered to Mònica Martínez Bravo, Minister of Social Rights of the Generalitat, a detailed viability report that covers more than 200 pages. This document analyzes the potential of the ‘Startup Village Residential Tarragona’ project, which seeks to transform a significant part of the ancient residential city into a nucleus of innovation.

Previous meetings and institutional support

Prior to the formal presentation, the EDT directive held several meetings with key figures, including the Government Delegate in Tarragona, Lucía López Cerdán, and Maria del Mar Giné, director of the Territorial Business and Work Services. These meetings were essential to present the proposal and obtain the necessary support.

A project with international attractive

The initiative aspires to obtain a 75 -year -old request for the space that will not be used for the Youth Hostel project promoted by the Generalitat. According to EDT, the international interest that has generated the project is reflected in the letters of interest received from investment funds and strategic entities from countries such as Luxembourg, Armenia, South Korea, Israel, Turkey and Kazakhstan.

Viability and investment analysis

The study, prepared in accordance with article 247.5 of the Public Sector Contracts Law, presents a solid technical, economic and financial feasibility to establish an ‘innovative ecosystem’ in Tarragona. The total investment required is between 8.5 and 9.3 million euros, which includes the rehabilitation of buildings and the investments required for their launch.

Diversified funding model

The project proposes a mixed financing model, which includes a significant contribution of private capital, bank debt and the search for both European and national grants. With annual income provided for more than 6.6 million euros and a recurring ebitda of more than 3.6 million after the full performance, financial viability is considerable.

Multifunctional space for entrepreneurs

The ‘Startups Village’ is designed as an integrated space that combines modern housing, work areas and entrepreneurship support services. With a capacity of 400 residents and more than 150 startups, this space seeks not only to foster innovation, but also to promote well -being and leisure in a privileged natural environment.

Synergies with the hostel project

Sebastià Cabré, President of EDT, emphasized the importance of creating synergies between the ‘Startups Village’ and the Youth Hostel, both initiatives occupying different but complementary areas of the complex. This collaboration seeks to enrich the experience of users and enhance the value of the project.

Way to the future

EDT has presented an ambitiously designed project and hopes that the Generalitat positively values the study to start the concession procedures. With this initiative, EDT not only seeks profitable investment, but also a clear commitment to the innovation and sustainable development of Tarragona.

The proposal is presented as a unique opportunity to revitalize an emblematic space and turn Tarragona into a benchmark for innovation and entrepreneurship at national and international levels.
