An unparalleled show in the heart of Tarragona
This weekend, the historic city of Tarragona is transformed into the epicenter of the world of castles with the celebration of a new edition of the Castles Competition. Considered to be the most important event in the castle area, the culminating moment will take place this Sunday at the Tarraco Arena, an emblematic venue that was once a braus square. On this stage, the most prominent gangs will compete to show off their most impressive constructions.
Saturday also shines with its own competition
Saturday is not far behind, with a competition dedicated to those gangs that have not qualified for the big event on Sunday. Although the constructions that will be presented will be less ambitious, the show promises to be just as vibrant, filling the Tarraco Arena with color and excitement. It should be remembered that the previous weekend, in Torredembarra, the ‘Concurset’ was held, with the victory of the Nois de la Torre, who demonstrated their talent with castles of moderate difficulty.
The International Day: a mosaic of cultures
In addition to the competitions, the Castles Competition also hosts the International Day of Castles, which took place on Saturday morning. In this event, the Castellers of Andorra were the protagonists, sharing the stage with groups from different parts of the world, such as the Castellers of Madrid, the Govindes of Mumbai, the Xiquets of Copenhagen and the Castellers of Paris. This fusion of cultures enriched the celebration with a spirit of brotherhood and diversity.
Outstanding performance by Castellers d’Andorra
The Castellers d’Andorra shone with their own light, completing a memorable performance with a 5 of 6 in the first round, a 2 of 6 in the second and a 4 of 6 with the pillar in the middle in the third. They ended their participation with a loaded 5 pillar, thus achieving the most outstanding performance of the International Day.
A favorable climate and a festive atmosphere
The meeting, held in Plaça de la Font, in front of Tarragona Town Hall, was a resounding success, with perfect weather accompanying the event. Attendees were able to enjoy a day full of festivities and excitement, with the Casteller world as the protagonist.
A diverse and fascinating castle world
It should be noted that, while the Castellers from Andorra and other Catalan gangs presented their constructions, the Govindes from Mumbai also showed their skills, although with different techniques. With six- and seven-story human towers, they brought a different perspective to the castellar world, showing that the traditions of erecting human towers can vary significantly from one culture to another.
