The historical arrival of the MSC Splendid
The MSC Splendida, an emblematic ship of the Swiss shipping company MSC, made its first stop in Tarragona this Friday, marking a significant moment in its fourth season of stairs in the city. This new stage is presented with a renewed commitment by MSC Cruceros, which provides for a total of 25 weekly visits to the Port Tarragona until October.
An awesome ship
Opened in 2009, the Splendida is one of the most prominent ships in the fantasy class, with a length of 333 meters and a width of 38 meters. With 27,000 square meters of public space, this boat can house up to 4,363 passengers in its 1,637 cabins, including an exclusive area known as Yatch Club, reserved for the most demanding travelers.
Symbolic welcome to the port
The visitors’ reception was marked by a traditional exchange of metopes, an event that was attended by prominent figures such as the director of Tarragona Cruise Port, Alba Colet, and the captain of the Splendida, Francesco Iacono. The President of the Tarragona Chamber of Commerce, Laura Roigé, recently awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi, also participated in the celebration.
Itineraries around the Mediterranean
During its season, the Splendida will perform weekly itineraries with departures every Friday from Tarragona. Its routes include stops in cities such as Valencia, Livorno, Civitavecchia, Genoa and Marseille, before returning to the capital of Tarragona. The most popular excursions among the passengers include visits to Roman Tarragona and PortAventura World, with great appeal to families during the summer.
Perspectives for the future
The cruise season in the Port of Tarragona started on April 2 with the arrival of La Belle des Océans and will close on November 4 with the same boat. With the aim of diversifying tourist options, new routes are being considered, such as those that include the Priorat region, thus expanding the offer for travelers.
