Significant Progress in Renewable Energy
The project known as Teruel Clúster Maestrazgo has recently received official authorization for its construction, a crucial step approved by the Council of Ministers on July 25. This initiative seeks to position itself as the largest wind farm in Spain.
Energy and Environmental Impact
The park is expected to begin operating in the third quarter of 2026, generating approximately 1,986 GWh of electricity annually, enough to supply around 570,000 homes. This advance will not only reduce CO2 emissions by 320,000 tons per year, but will also support the renewable energy objectives established in the PNIEC-23.
A Boost to Local Industry
The company behind the project has highlighted that many of the components and services required will be provided by local companies, which represents a significant boost for the wind industry in the country.
Strategic Collaborations
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), promoter of the project, has established an agreement of more than 700 million euros with GE Vernova for the delivery and commissioning of 125 wind turbines. This collaboration includes a 15-year full service contract.
Local Production of Components
The turbine blades will be manufactured in Castellón, while the towers will come from factories in Albacete, Burgos and Galicia. In addition, Hitachi Energy will produce the power transformers required for the project in Córdoba.
Economic Growth Projection
CIP partner Nischal Agarwal has expressed his satisfaction with this progress and his commitment to job creation and the strengthening of the economy in Aragon and Valencia. This project is not only key to decarbonisation, but is also projected as a benchmark in the sector at a European level.
CIP: A Global Player in Renewable Energy
Founded in 2012, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has raised nearly €28 billion for renewable energy investments. With an office in Madrid, the firm develops one of the largest portfolios of energy projects in Spain, including wind farms in Aragon.
Innovation in Green Hydrogen
In addition, CIP is responsible for Catalina PtX, an innovative green hydrogen project that will combine wind and solar PV energy, recently receiving €230 million in EU subsidies. This initiative has been recognised for its strategic importance at a regional level.
Looking to the Future
With the progress of the Teruel Clúster Maestrazgo project, the transition towards a more sustainable future and less dependent on fossil fuels is emerging as a reality in Spain, marking a milestone in the history of renewable energy in the country.
