An approval that opens the doors to the future
Barcelona City Council has given the green light to the renewed rehabilitation project of the Arnau Theatre, a fundamental step that marks the start of the works. With a budget of more than 10 million euros, the works are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2025 and last for approximately two years, with completion scheduled for early 2027.
A project with history: Word of mouth
Since its launch, the Boca a boca project, led by the prestigious Harquitectes office, has evolved significantly. After a first version presented in 2021, the current revision has involved simplifying the design, eliminating the basement to better adapt the space to new cultural and functional needs.

The design of the new Arnau Theatre is based on three fundamental axes: memory, community and territory, as well as performing arts. This new configuration seeks to turn the theatre into a versatile space, ideal for live arts and various cultural activities, thus reinforcing its historical role in the city.
A link with the neighborhoods: a commitment to the community
The project is not only limited to the physical rehabilitation of the space, but also seeks to strengthen the bond with the residents of the adjacent neighborhoods, such as Poble-sec, Raval and Sant Antoni. Community participation is essential, and close work is being done with local entities and professionals from the cultural sector.
Revitalization of the Paral·lel: a new cultural hub
The Arnau Theatre, inaugurated in 1894, has been a symbol of cultural life in Barcelona. Closed since 2004, its rehabilitation is part of a wider strategy to revitalize Avinguda del Paral·lel. Initiatives such as the creation of the Paral·lel 62 hall and the recent renovation of El Molino are examples of this commitment to culture.
