A workshop full of history and creativity
On a rainy day, the muddy terrain guided us to the workshop of Jan Vallverdú, a young artist born in Barcelona in 1995. Located in an old galliner area in Sant Just Desvern, this space houses a world of colors and emotions that reflect its artistic vision. The tranquility of this residential area contrasts with the urban bustle, providing the ideal context for its creativity.
Ixent talent: A platform for new artists
The visit to the Vallverdú workshop is part of Talent Ixent, a cycle promoted by the Visual Arts Section of the Ateneu Barcelonès. This initiative seeks to give visibility to emerging artists from Catalonia, allowing the public to discover their methodologies and creative processes. In this atmosphere, we prepare to explore the work of Vallverdú, which is distinguished by its originality and depth.
An art that fuses the past and the present
In a small space, the different elements of Jan’s workshop attract us. Oil tubes and brushes are scattered on tables, while he shares his artistic career. Vallverdú began to express himself through the graphite and murals in his youth, and now, under the representation of Beta Contemporary and the Galería Herrero de Tejada, explores more intimate formats. However, he himself acknowledges that the essence of his artistic roots remains alive in his creations.
The horizon line as a recurring element
The works of Vallverdú are characterized by a rich mix of abstract shapes and the constant element of the horizon. The artist does not focus on figurative representations, but plays with colors and contrasts to create atmospheres that evoke different emotions. On the walls, cuts of magazines, photographs and own studies combine, reflecting their diverse inspiration.
A dialogue with human essence
Vallverdú seeks to generate an emotional experience with his work, where the discomfort of interpretation is intentional. For him, painting is an act of self -acceptance, a way of transmitting his experiences and emotions. Through blurred figures, the artist explores the dualities of the human condition, approaching everyday themes with a depth that goes beyond the appearance.
The creative process as meditation
The artistic practice of Vallverdú is based on a meditative approach. It alternates between intent and chance, letting their works evolve naturally. Their days in the workshop vary; Sometimes he is dedicated to contemplating the space, while others perform intuitive exercises that allow him to explore contrasts and textures.
Reflections on artistic growth
Imagining Jan in his workshop any morning, the light that enters the small windows reminds us of the importance of time and patience in the creative process. His work, like bamboo, takes time to grow and develop. Invisible growth under the surface is essential for the appearance of beauty in sight. Vallverdú, with a deep understanding of his practice, paints to discover and express, letting intuition guide his path.
