The decision to present appeals of unconstitutionality
The autonomous communities governed by the PP will present appeals of unconstitutionality against the amnesty law that will be approved by the Congress of Deputies. The president of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has announced this decision and has stated that this measure of grace is an attempt to break the rule of law. The regional presidents of the PP, under the initiative of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, will present resources before the Constitutional Court to fight this law. This action has been considered as a show of party indiscipline on the part of Ayuso.
Reactions of the regional presidents of the PP
After the approval of the law, the regional presidents of the PP, such as Juanma Moreno from Andalusia, Jorge Azcón from Aragon, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco from Castile and Leon, Carlos Mazón from the Valencian Country, Fernando López Miras from Múrcia and Marga Natives of the Balearic Islands have expressed their intention to file unconstitutionality appeals against this measure. They have argued that this law is a secessionist challenge, a breach of the principle of equality and solidarity between Spaniards and a black page in history. They have also accused Pedro Sánchez of leading the biggest attack on the rule of law and breaking equality between Spaniards. These regional presidents have promised to do everything in their power to stop the amnesty.
Approval of the amnesty law
The Congress of Deputies has definitively approved the amnesty law with the support of 178 votes in favor and 172 against. The law will enter into force once it is published in the BOE and will be applied by judges.
