The Castellers struggle for a own space: a common challenge

A season start full of challenges

With the arrival of the end of February and the beginning of March, the castellers groups are preparing to restart their rehearsals. However, the lack of appropriate spaces has become a significant obstacle to various groups, such as the Bordeaux of Vilanova and the Castellers de Badalona.

Location Problems: A Continuous Battle

Recently, the Bordeaux have been notified of the ban on securing trials to their regular Can Pinyana premises, due to neighborhood complaints about noise. Despite the time adaptations made to minimize the impact, the pressure of the community has resulted in an unfavorable decision for the gang.

Hope in the future

With a view to next season, members of the group are confident that the City Council can offer a viable solution, considering that their financial situation does not allow them to look for immediate alternatives.

A story of travel

The Castellers de Badalona, with a trajectory of almost three decades, have experienced the frustration of having to change its headquarters on six different occasions. They are currently rehearsing in a space that does not offer optimum conditions, such as the Maignon Market, where they had to leave earlier due to structural problems.

Institutional commitments

Recently, Badalona City Council approved a project to turn an old factory into the new Castellers headquarters, a decision that has been welcomed by the gang, despite the fact that the local government has yet to provide the project.

The reality of the groups of Barcelona

In Barcelona, the Castellers de Sarrià struggle to achieve their own space. Currently, they rehearse outdoors, a situation that not only limits their practice, but also exposes them to inclement weather.

Dismissed alternatives

Although they were proposed to move to the Vallvidrera market, the distance from the neighborhood has made this option ruled out.

The case of the Molins de Rei Matossers

The Matossers have made the difficult decision to leave their social premises due to neighborhood complaints and the decrease in members. The City Council has provided them with a warehouse, which they consider to be insufficient for their needs.

New in La Bisbal and Sitges

In La Bisbal del Penedès, the Castellera dels Bous gang has found its ideal space in La Fassina, a historic building that will allow them to develop their activity more comfortably. On the other hand, the Xiquets de Tarragona seek a new headquarters after seven years of uncertainty, hoping to access a new space between 2027 and 2028.

A look at Futur

With projects underway for the construction of new premises, groups expect their efforts to culminate in the more stable and promising future, where they can rehearse without limitations and continue to keep the castellera tradition alive.
