Internal complaints of accounting irregularities
The vice-president of the Council of the Republic, Toni Comín, is at the center of a controversy due to internal allegations of accounting irregularities in the entity’s expenses. The publication of an internal email, dated April 2023 and signed by the then manager of the Council, Sergi Miquel, has revealed the crisis brewing in the entity. This email, addressed to the members of the government of the pro-independence platform in exile, contains strong criticisms about some invoices generated by Comín.
Concern in the training ranks
The concern in the ranks of the formation is noticeable and some cadres show their disenchantment and restlessness at the official silence of the party leadership. In this sense, they understand that Junts per Catalunya should also provide explanations for the reported behavior of the elected MEP.
Criticisms and resignations
Some sources from the board admit that the allegations about Comín’s actions help to understand the resignations that have taken place on the Council. It is worth noting that some of these resignations came from members of the Council’s government who did not understand Comín’s ways of managing.
Reactions and official silence
In this context, it is said that the general secretary should react to the situation. However, for now, silence continues as the official response.
Comín version
Comín has stated in an interview with TV3 that the accusations presented by the manager at the time were based on a personal vendetta. According to his version, Sergi Miquel had been fired and was preparing to leave the Council when he wrote the email. Comín maintains that Miquel actually wanted revenge because he had been invited to resign due to bad management.
