The Font Vella revalues Christmas traditions with lighting and festivities

A Christmas full of surprises in the Font Vella district

This year, the Font Vella neighborhood is preparing to experience a memorable Christmas, with an initiative that seeks to restore the charm of the traditional Christmas festivities. The residents, with the support of the City Council, have decided to recover the first Christmas lighting that was installed in a neighborhood of the city during the seventies.

The new location of the Christmas Fair

The change of the Christmas Fair, which will now be held in Plaça Pius XII, Carrer Nostra Senyora de la O and Plaça del Pilar, aims to offer a richer experience to visitors. This fair will open its doors this Friday, promising a variety of Christmas activities and products.

Teresa Riba’s nativity scene

To increase the attractiveness of the area, it has been decided to move the nativity scene created by Igualada artist Teresa Riba, which will now be more accessible to all citizens. The councilor for Institutional Relations, Pere Camps, commented on this initiative, highlighting the importance of bringing traditions closer to the community.

Recovering the neighborhood’s history

Antònia Bisbal, spokesperson for the residents’ committee, recalled that the objective of the entity, since its foundation more than fifty years ago, has been to preserve the Pilar festivities and recover traditions that had been lost, such as the Ou com Balla and the 1978 Christmas Fair. In addition, she highlighted that the Font Vella was a pioneer in Christmas lighting in its streets.

Christmas activities and fun for everyone

Last Friday, Passeig Verdaguer was illuminated, attracting a large number of visitors who actively participated in the celebration with their ‘fireflies’. This new lighting has been well received by the people of Igualada, who have expressed their enthusiasm for the decoration.

The Magic Nest and the Advent Calendar

The Magical Nest of Cal Font has started its Advent Calendar with the lighting of the first light bulb, a moment many children have been waiting for. Each day, the lantern makers will share little stories that will add a magical touch to the Christmas atmosphere.

Magic Stage: a space for the arts

The Magic Stage of Cal Font, with a new location, will be a meeting point for several local entities, who will be able to show their performances throughout the month of December. With a program that includes performances by choirs and artistic groups, the stage promises to fill the winter nights with music and dance.

Calendar of performances

Among the featured performances, the Coral Gatzara, the Cor de Xauxa and the Cor de Gòspel will bring their music to the stage, culminating in the children’s New Year’s Eve celebration in the Cal Font square. These activities are a way of welcoming the Christmas spirit.

A decoration inspired by tradition

Finally, the Niu Màgic debuts a central decoration that pays tribute to quality leather, an emblematic material of the city, thanks to the collaboration with Curtits Badia. This decoration not only beautifies the space, but also symbolizes the rich cultural heritage of the area.
