An expanding bibliography

Castle -related literature has experienced significant growth over the years. Currently, more than 200 works focus on this cultural phenomenon, covering themes ranging from history to technical analysis. These books have been made with various general and specific approaches, focused on local groups or traditions.

A comprehensive collection

Thanks to the efforts of the historian Pere Ferrando, a large catalog of books on castles has been collected. This compilation includes works of history, dissemination and children’s literature, among others. However, certain publications, such as yearbooks and internal documents, have not been excluded, which do not meet the objective of making a comprehensive bibliographic collection.

The first prominent titles

Works that have marked time

One of the first texts that emerged in this area was ‘Lo Tres de Nou’, published in 1902. This play, which narrates a love triangle with casteller background, was released in Valls and is considered one of the first examples of literature related to castles.

The contribution of folklorists

Joan Amades, one of the most recognized folklorists, also contributed to castellera literature with his work ‘The Xiquets de Valls’, published in 1934. This work analyzes the castles in the context of popular traditions, providing a cultural and social approach.

Evolution and diversification

Over the years, the castellera bibliography has been diversifying. Works that address technical and historical aspects have joined the narrative, which includes both books for children and academic studies. These publications not only celebrate the tradition, but also seek to analyze and disseminate knowledge about this unique cultural practice.

The future of castellera literature

With the continuity of castellera activity and the increase in interest in this tradition, it is to be expected that the bibliography will continue to grow. New emerging voices and perspectives will help to enrich this literary heritage, helping to keep the spirit of castles alive through the pages of books.
