From Festival to Intimate Performance
In an unexpected turn of events, the acclaimed band The Hoosiers has decided to host a special performance at a cozy record store, following the cancellation of their scheduled appearance at On the Green Fest in Peterborough. The festival’s organizers faced challenges with ticket sales, leading to the last-minute cancellation and paving the way for a more personal engagement with their fans.
A Surprise for Oakham
The band’s pop-up gig is set to take place at Rockabuy Records, a family-owned establishment in Oakham, Rutland, on Saturday, May 24. Dean Poole, the store owner, shared his astonishment when he received the call from festival organizers asking if they could host The Hoosiers in his quaint shop.
A Unique Venue for a Unique Experience
Initially, Poole was concerned about the shop’s capacity, which accommodates just 70 guests. However, the band expressed their enthusiasm for a more intimate setting, allowing fans to enjoy an up-close experience with the artists. ‘Sometimes you just have to seize the moment,’ Poole reflected, emphasizing the joy of giving back to the community.
The Hoosiers’ Commitment to Fans
Members Irwin Sparkes and Alan Sharland are excited to perform a selection of their greatest hits, ensuring that fans who were looking forward to the festival will still have a chance to see them live. Sparkes remarked, ‘After the disappointing news about the festival, we thought it would be a great idea to connect with our fans in a more personal way.’
First-Come, First-Served Access
The performance will be free, with entry based on a first-come, first-served policy, prioritizing those who had purchased tickets for the now-cancelled festival. This approach not only acknowledges the fans’ loyalty but also creates an exciting atmosphere of anticipation.
A Memorable Evening for a Small Town
For the small town of Oakham, hosting such a celebrated band represents a significant event, and Poole is mindful of the need to keep the noise levels manageable. ‘It’s an acoustic gig, so we’re hoping to avoid disturbing the neighbors,’ he added, highlighting the charm of the event amid the backdrop of their tranquil town.
Looking Ahead
As the date approaches, excitement builds not only for The Hoosiers but also for the community of Oakham. This spontaneous gig serves as a reminder of the power of music to bring people together, transforming disappointment into a memorable experience that celebrates both the artists and their devoted fans.
