A call to transform the healthcare system
The organization of hospital clowns Pallapupas has made a call to integrate emotional care as an essential service in the Catalan health system. This call seeks to permanently transform the system, recognizing the importance of not only curing diseases, but also providing comprehensive emotional support to people.
The key role of humor in emotional healing
Pallapupas highlights the key role of humor in emotional healing, stating that it helps reduce fear, anxiety and stress, contributing to a reduction in treatments and, consequently, associated costs. In addition, he emphasizes that learning to laugh in times of adversity is a powerful tool that complements conventional medical treatments.
Recognition of the importance of emotional care
Andrés Morgenstern, head of the Pediatric and Chronic Patient Palliative Care unit at the Vall d’Hebron hospital, emphasizes that the sincere laughter of a sick person or their relatives can provide a break in the illness and the suffering, reducing the associated distress.
Vision in the Balearic Islands and call for integration in Catalonia
Pallapupas points out that currently, in the Balearic Islands, hospital clowns are already integrated into healthcare services, led by the NGO Sonrisa Médica. This integration has been recognized as a pioneering and exemplary step. Through a manifesto, Pallapupas seeks to give visibility to the figure of the hospital ‘clown’ and give him the professional category that corresponds to him as a specialist and expert in the management of emotional care.
