The imminent refresh: Spain prepares for DANA

Goodbye to the heat wave

After days of extreme heat that have tested the resistance of the Spanish, the imminence of a DANA (Depression Isolated at High Levels) promises a drastic change in weather conditions. This phenomenon is expected to bring much-deserved relief, with the arrival of storms and a significant drop in temperatures.

Falling temperatures

From Tuesday, August 13, a general drop in thermometers is expected, as a mass of fresh air moves through the territory. The northern and eastern areas of the country will benefit the most, while the southwest will continue to experience high temperatures, although not extreme.

The north and the east: an expected relief

The thermal values will start to drop drastically, leaving behind the sweltering summer temperatures. In particular, in the regions of the Cantabrian, it is predicted that the thermometers can drop up to 20 °C.

Cooler nights and heavy rain

One of the most notable changes will be the arrival of tropical nights, which will mainly affect the south-west and the Canary Islands, where nighttime minimums will not fall below 20°C. In contrast, the inland areas of the north will see considerable cooling, with the possibility of frost in high mountain areas.

Rain expected

Weather forecasts indicate that many regions of Spain will experience heavy rain this week, with Mallorca and the Balearic Islands at the forefront of the impact. From Friday, strong storms could cause local flooding, while in the north, Galicia and the Basque Country will see an increase in rainfall.

Facing inclement weather

The authorities have issued alerts to several autonomous communities, highlighting the need for caution in the face of possible interruptions in services and infrastructure. Electrical storms in Navarre and the mountainous areas of the Pyrenees increase the risk of accidents and slips.

Look to the future

As the talveg moves towards the Mediterranean, a gradual stabilization of the climate is expected. Although temperatures could increase slightly towards the weekend, they will remain within moderate ranges. This dynamic scenario reflects the changing nature of the Spanish climate, with transitions that require adaptability and preparation on the part of citizens.
