Pablo Cruz and Dexter Docampo, Champions of the V International Chess Festival

The V International Chess Festival, held in the Valencian town of Silla from June 14 to 16, was an outstanding event that brought together chess players of different nationalities. The festival, which celebrated its fifth anniversary, had the participation of 224 players of 25 different nationalities, including prominent international players.

Two main tournaments were held during the festival: the III Ciudad de Silla International Tournament and the VI International Blitz. In the III Ciudad de Silla International Tournament, the International Master Pablo Cruz Lledó became champion, followed by the Argentine Grandmaster Alfredo Giaccio and the International Master Antonio Granero Roca. On the other hand, in the VI International Blitz, the Fide Master of Cuba, Dexter Docampo, took the champion title, accompanied on the podium by the Spaniards Marc Carbonell Sancho and José Miguel Ortega Ruiz.

Special Recognitions and Highlights

During the festival, two outstanding participants received special recognition. Castellón native José Bou Part received a commemorative plaque for his recent runner-up position in the Spanish Championship for People with Functional Diversity. Likewise, the Club Ajedrez de Silla player, Silvia Doñate Moreno, was recognised with a commemorative plaque for her double Spanish University Championship in rapid and Blitz.

The Chair Chess Club strove to improve every aspect of the festival. The first 8 games were broadcast live worldwide, allowing fans to follow the event from anywhere with an internet connection. In addition, the quality of the game material was improved and personalized accreditations were offered to all participants. Players also received a backpack with a roll-up board and chess pieces, enhancing their experience during the festival.

Commitment of the institutions and thanks

The President of the Chair Chess Club, Juan José Espinosa, and the Sports Councilor, Benigno Bodón, participated in the awards ceremony, demonstrating the commitment of the local authorities to this prestigious event. The Director of the Festival, José Antonio García Domingo, expressed his gratitude to the Chess Federation of the Valencian Community, the Generalitat Valenciana and the Provincial Council of Valencia for their constant support. All participants were also recognized for their sportsmanship and competitive spirit during the three days of the festival.
