The Joverd: A Festival of Castles and Youth Union

An event that inspires

With the image of 1,700 young people dedicated to the art of castles, Joverd has become a brilliant example of castellera culture. Organized by the Castellers de Vilafranca, this event, which celebrated its twelfth edition, reflects not only the competition, but also the passion and commitment of a generation that seeks to excel in a tradition that unites them.

The genesis of Joverd

Born in 2010 with the intention of attracting the attention of teenagers, Joverd has been a project promoted by Toni Bach, under the direction of David Miret and Miquel Ferret. This name, with a meaning that resonates with the youth and the community, has evolved to become a benchmark for new generations.

An unstoppable growth

Over the years, Joverd has grown exponentially, becoming a meeting point for young people from 12 to 18 years old from Vilafranca and Alt Penedès. This activity not only promotes physical exercise, but also promotes social cohesion between adolescents who do not normally interact in other areas.

A well -organized competition

The format of the contest is simple but captivating: institutes and schools are presented as groups, each with a name that reflects their identity. Participants compete in five rounds, trying to build castles that will be evaluated based on their complexity and execution.

Score and regulations

The castles are scored at a table ranging from the 4 -tower to the tower of 5 with lining, with the aim of stimulating the active participation of all the members of the groups. The variability in the score encourages the inclusion of all students, regardless of their previous experience.

The importance of safety

Security is a fundamental pillar in the design of Joverd. The constructions are planned to take into account the risks, and it is sought that all participants are formed to guarantee a safe and fun experience.

An educational and social project

The essays are mainly performed during the teaching hours, with teachers who are castellers acting as guides. This dynamic not only raises the number of participants, but also strengthens the relationship between students and teachers, creating a learning and collaboration atmosphere.

Positive results

Not only does the Castellers de Vilafranca benefit, who have seen an increase in young members, but also fosters a sense of belonging among students, improving cohesion and identity within their educational centers.

A successful success

The last edition was a great success, with six groups managing to make lining, a moment that involved 162 young people in the second pineapple. The logistics of the event, with a support team of 120 castellers, said that everything was developed fluently.

An accessible event

Since 2018, the Joverd has been held on General Prim Avenue, allowing a better action for a large number of participants and spectators. The live broadcast on YouTube and the LED screen on the site made the event accessible to everyone.

A promising future

With each edition, the Joverd reaffirms itself as an essential platform for youth, strengthening not only the castellers traditions, but also the social connections that will last over time. Its influence on the community is undeniable and is expected to continue to grow in the coming years.
