Summons for declaration
Judge Manuel García Castellón has called to testify for next Tuesday, April 14, two days after the Catalan elections and the day in which the majority of the PP in the Senate will reject the amnesty law, two of the police officers injured during the disturbances of the process that the magistrate considers relevant in the Tsunami Democràtic case.
New steps in instruction
With this summons, the judge advances in the investigation of the case after requesting the addresses of the accused independence supporters to proceed with their summons, which were hindered by the departure to Switzerland of several of them.
Link to altercations
The two police officers who will appear as witnesses were seriously injured during the riots in Plaza Urquinaona in Barcelona on October 18, 2019, on the day of greatest riots that followed the sentencing of the process. Although the protest that day was not called by Tsunami Democràtic, the judge links the platform to the altercations and injuries suffered.
Exclusion of the Tsunami cause
Since reactivating the investigation of the case in November of last year, the judge has expressed in several of his writings that he considers that the Tsunami case may be excluded from the amnesty rule, mainly due to the injuries suffered by the police officers, which were not They were denounced at the time in the Barcelona courts.

The judge has indicated that the serious injuries of the police officers are one of the reasons for not including the Tsunami cause in the law of criminal forgetfulness of the process, according to his criteria. In addition, the agents’ defense has received support for their argument that the injuries had a terrorist origin, backed by the Supreme Court.

Both agents, who due to injuries can no longer work as riot police, have requested to be recognized as victims of terrorism, despite the fact that the Tsunami case is still in the investigation process.

The first agent was injured after being hit by an object on his helmet, which caused him to collapse and lose consciousness. The second suffered a fracture in the radius of his right arm and, after several surgeries, he was retired at the age of 45.
