The position of the Junta de Castilla y León regarding the UN report
The Junta de Castilla y León has decided not to issue a statement on the UN report that warns about the concord laws of the PP and Vox. According to regional government sources, this is because they have not received the report and, therefore, cannot comment on the matter.
The vice president of the Board, Juan García-Gallardo, has expressed his interest in receiving the report formally in order to study its content. Furthermore, he has raised questions about the impartiality of the rapporteurs and their knowledge of Spanish legislation.
The importance of treating all victims of political and religious conflicts
The regional government has highlighted the importance of treating in a neutral and broad manner all victims of political and religious conflicts in Spain during the 20th century. According to García-Gallardo, this is a matter of justice and they will not be influenced by the UN report.
In relation to the omission of the condemnation of the Franco dictatorship in the future law and the explicit pronouncement of the PP in favor of a socialist PNL that did do so, García-Gallardo has ironically commented on the inclusion of historical condemnations in the laws. According to him, the Concord Law is not intended to judge history, but rather to offer protection to all victims of political and religious persecution.
The process of drafting the law of concord
The vice president of the Board recalled that the concord law was registered in June 2022 and that negotiations have been carried out with the PP to reach a consensus. According to García-Gallardo, the inclusion of the condemnation of the Franco dictatorship would not be reasonable, since the laws are not intended for that purpose. Furthermore, he has described the criticism as distraction maneuvers by the left.
In summary, the Junta de Castilla y León has decided not to comment on the UN report because it has not received it. The regional government highlights the importance of treating all victims of political and religious conflicts in a neutral and broad manner. Furthermore, it has been emphasized that the law of concord is not intended to judge history, but rather to protect victims of political and religious persecution. Finally, it was recalled that the law was registered in June 2022 and negotiations have been carried out with the PP to reach a consensus.
