Reopening of L2 after improvements
The Barcelona Metro has celebrated the return to normality of the L2 line, which fully resumed service on August 26, at 5 am. This reopening takes place after some important works that forced traffic between the Parallel and Sagrada Família stations to stop for two months.
Improvements in the railway infrastructure
During the closure period, the Generalitat has carried out the replacement of the track fixings, an action designed to reduce the vibrations caused by the passage of trains. Barcelona City Council has announced this, emphasizing that the work has been completed according to the established schedule.
Impact on travelers
The president of Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), Laia Botel, thanked the users who had to modify their journeys during the works for their patience. He emphasized that the project has made it possible to make improvements that would not have been possible with the service in operation.
Investment and alternatives during construction
With a total budget of 5.6 million euros financed by European funds, the improvements to the L2 are a significant step for the efficiency of the transport system. During this summer, travelers were able to use the rest of the metro network, which increased its capacity with more trains to compensate for the disruption.
Information and communication with users
Before the start of the works, several information campaigns were implemented that included the presence of informants, as well as billboards and signage to guide affected travelers.
Future perspectives for the metro network
With the recent reopening of L2, Barcelona’s metro network is gradually recovering its functionality. Only the reactivation of the section of the L5 between Collblanc and Cornellà Center is pending, with a forecast for completion of the works by September 2.
