The water reserves in La Baells and other reservoirs in the region

The recent rains and snow melt in the Pyrenees have had a significant impact on reservoirs in the central counties, bringing them to reserve levels not seen for a long time. The La Baells reservoir has experienced exceptional growth, doubling its reserves since March. This progression has brought it to be close to 50% of its capacity, with more than 50 hm3 of water and with an increasing trend of approximately half a percentage point daily. This rapid accumulation of water could cause it to reach half its capacity in short order.

Evolution of reserves

At the beginning of March, reserves at La Baells were 21.4 hm3, and have now reached 50.6 hm3, representing an increase of 31.2 hm3. This high amount of water has led the reservoir to go from 19.6% to 50.6% of its capacity in just three months. This level of reserves had not been seen for two years, when it was at 52.8% of its capacity. This contrasts with data from 5 and 10 years ago, where reserves were considerably higher.

Other reservoirs in the region

The reservoirs of Sant Ponç and la Llosa del Cavall have also experienced an increase in their reserves, although not as pronounced as that of La Baells. Sant Ponç has exceeded 34% of its capacity, while Llosa is close to 27%. As a whole, the internal basins of Ter-Llobregat have accumulated water, reaching 31.03% of their capacity.
