The magnificent construction of the Sacred Basilica

The Final Phase of the Basilica

The final stages of the construction of the Sagrada Basilica are near, according to the words of the delegate president of the Construction Board, Esteve Camps. Two of the remaining buildings are expected to be completed in 2025, next year.

The first of these will be the central tower of the basilica, the tallest tower dedicated to Jesus. This new architectural element will significantly change the urban appearance of Barcelona, being the tallest structure in the city after the Torre de Collserola.

The second important construction is the chapel of the Assumpta, which will close the area of the basilica that faces Carrer de Provence. Although perhaps less iconic than the tower, the chapel has its own relevance in the building as a whole.

Details of the Chapel of the Assumption

The Chapel of the Assumption is located at the back of the apse of the Sagrada Família, connected to the temple by two cloisters. The structure will include a 30 meter high dome, symbolizing the blue mantle of Our Lady of Mercy.

A direct access from Carrer Provence is planned for the chapel, although its exact use has not been decided. The interior of the building will receive a special decoration, with a sculptor in charge of the work.

Upcoming Construction Milestones

With the completion of the chapel and the tower of Jesus, construction will focus on the façade of the Glory, the largest and most controversial part of the project, as it affects the neighbors of the buildings adjacent to Carrer de Mallorca.
