A new wave of precipitation is approaching
Today, December 11, Spain is preparing for a strong irruption of rain, with a notable impact on the eastern regions of the country and the Balearic Islands. According to data provided by AEMET, the State Meteorological Agency, an easterly flow will be responsible for the increase in instability in the Mediterranean area.
Weather forecasts and warnings
This weather situation will cause a dense layer of clouds and rain that could be very intense in certain locations. In particular, very heavy showers and storms are expected to affect the Mediterranean region, including Catalonia, the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands.
Particularly affected areas
The regions that will suffer the most from these conditions include the coast of Catalonia, the southern areas of Valencia, Alicante and the island of Mallorca. AEMET has issued yellow warnings for heavy rain, with accumulations that could exceed 20 liters per square meter in just one hour.
Alert to the communities of Catalonia and Valencia
Authorities have activated yellow warnings in Catalonia and the Valencian Community, with special attention to the coast of Barcelona and Tarragona, as well as the south of Valencia and Alicante. In the latter places, rainfall could accumulate up to 60 liters per square meter in a 12-hour period.
Recommendations for the population
These rains are expected to persist throughout the day, with warnings active from 8 am and no forecast of deactivation in the short term. Authorities recommend that precautions be taken, especially in areas at risk of water accumulation, such as mountainous areas or those near rivers and ravines. Civil Protection has suggested avoiding driving on flooded roads and staying away from these areas.
Other regions with rain forecast
Elsewhere in the Peninsula, a lot of cloud is expected, with lighter rain in Galicia, Castile and León, as well as in La Rioja and some areas in the east and southeast. However, the rainfall here will not be as severe as that expected in the Mediterranean communities.
Persistent weather instability
This wave of intensified rain is just the beginning of a period of meteorological instability that is expected to last in the coming days. Citizens are advised to follow AEMET updates and stay informed about possible emergencies.
