The tourist toll in Spain
The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, has expressed his opinion on the possible implementation of measures such as the tourist toll in Spain, taking as an example the measure applied in Venice, where visitors must pay five euros to enter the city during the busiest days. Hereu has stated that he does not see it as negative that these measures could reach Spain in the long term, although he has clarified that this step has not yet been fully considered. He has argued that in places with a hyperconcentration of visitors it is clear that governments must make decisions, all the while betting on the deseasonalization and deconcentration of tourism.
Political positioning
In a political key, the socialist minister has commented on the position of the Popular Party, stating that it is ‘mimicked’ and ‘completely contaminated’ by the extreme right. According to Hereu, the populists have bought ‘the whole frame’ of the extreme right, thus differentiating themselves from the liberal or Christian right throughout Europe. He lamented the current situation, recalling that when he was mayor there was opposition and government, but cordiality was maintained. He has also expressed his disappointment with Feijóo.
Reflection of Pedro Sánchez
Regarding Pedro Sánchez’s decision to give himself until Monday to reflect on whether he wants to continue as president, Hereu has stated that he hopes he will ‘come up’ and choose to continue. He emphasized that there is genuine personal reflection in this decision, despite criticizing the ‘perverse dynamic’ that has turned political opponents into ‘enemies’ to be defeated.
