The new life in Zarzuela: changes in the royal family

Letizia loses influence

The Zarzuela Palace has undergone significant changes since Letizia lost influence within the royal family. The campaign to discredit the queen has been successful, leading her to accept her role as consort and give greater prominence to Felipe VI in official appearances. In addition, the Bourbons have met again and celebrated all their birthdays in recent months. Now, the palace welcomes almost all members of the family.

Presence of family members

In Zarzuela, Infanta Elena can be seen visiting her mother and aunt every afternoon. She is also in charge of grooming the horses and training them. Victoria Federica is also a frequent presence, although she usually goes at dawn. She visits Queen Sofía while she sleeps and, to avoid arguments with her mother, she prefers to stay the night in Zarzuela when she arrives late from the party.

Other residents

In addition to the direct members of the royal family, there are other residents in Zarzuela. During the summer, Irene and Miguel Urdangarin stay at the palace. The youngest of the family will begin her university studies in the UK in September, but in the meantime, she is enjoying her gap year in Madrid. Miguel, for her part, is taking a few months off due to an injury while taking a ski coaching course. Infanta Cristina has also been seen staying on alternate days to check on her children and looking for company.

Disagreement with the presence of the Bourbons

Letizia has had discussions with Felipe VI due to the presence of the Bourbons in Zarzuela. Although she lives a kilometer away from the palace, Letizia does not want her husband’s family to be close to her daughters, Leonor and Sofía. She considers that there are too many and could damage the image of the crown. For this reason, she has expressed her desire that Victoria Federica not visit the Zarzuela at dawn.

In summary, Zarzuela has undergone significant changes in recent times. Letizia has lost influence within the royal family, which has led to a greater presence of Felipe VI in official appearances. Additionally, several family members have been seen visiting and staying at the palace. However, there have also been disagreements regarding the presence of the Borbón in Zarzuela.
