The persistent cold: snowfall continues in the Catalan regions

Meteocat warns about winter conditions in Catalonia

Catalonia is immersed in a winter storm that, despite expectations of improvement, continues to affect several areas. Today, December 9, Meteocat has issued snowfall alerts in three regions, highlighting the persistence of cold and snow in the mountainous areas of the north.

Snow and falling temperatures

The drop in temperatures has been notable, accompanied by heavy snowfalls that have mainly affected the regions of Vall d’Aran, Alta Ribagorça and Pallars Sobirà. These regions, located in the high parts of the Pyrenees, will continue to experience significant snowfalls during the day, with accumulations that could exceed 30 cm at high altitudes.

Snow level and dangerous conditions

Forecasts indicate that the snow level will be around 800 meters until noon, dropping to 600 meters in the afternoon. This means that snowfalls may affect areas at lower altitudes, generating possible complications in accesses and roads.

Impact on outdoor activities

With snowfall and adverse weather conditions, the risk for outdoor activities increases. The forecast of high altitude storms brings an additional element of danger, with a level of risk rated 4 out of 6 by Meteocat.

Conditions in coastal areas

On the central coast, conditions will be milder, with the possibility of isolated showers that will not generate significant accumulations. This contrast with the Pyrenean regions highlights the diversity of weather conditions within Catalonia.

Reflections on the immediate future

Although a gradual improvement in weather conditions is expected, the northern regions will have to deal with a start to the week marked by inclement weather. Temperatures will continue to drop, with frost that may spread to different areas, including points on the coast.

Winter continues in Catalonia, and with it, the need to be prepared for the adversities that the storm may bring. Authorities recommend caution in the face of the extreme conditions that remain active.
