The Procession of Sant Magí: A Living Tradition in Tarragona

Massive Celebration in Honor of Sant Magí

On August 19, the Upper Part of Tarragona became a sea of people who, with great fervor, participated in the procession dedicated to Sant Magí, one of the city’s patron saints. The day was presided over by Archbishop Joan Planellas, who led the image of the saint to the hermitage of Portal del Carro, thus marking the end of a series of festivities that have filled the Tarragona capital with joy and devotion .

A Day Full of Religious Ceremonies

The day began early with the celebration of six Eucharists by the local priests, which attracted a large influx of faithful to the small chapel and the street that gives access to it. At 11:00 a.m., the solemn mass took place, with the outstanding presence of Archbishop Planellas, accompanied by Mn. Joan Águila and Mn. Joan Magí, among others. The ceremony was attended by members of the town council, the Confraternity of Sant Magí Mártir, the local pub and numerous attendees.

Reflections on the Legend of Sant Magí

During his homily, Archbishop Planellas underlined the relevance of the figure of Sant Magí, describing him as a hermit who spread the Christian message. He urged attendees to look for spirituality in everyday details, whether in nature, the fields, the sea or in relationships with others.

Inspiration in the Life of Sant Magí

In addition, Planellas made a call to follow the example of Sant Magí and other holy figures who gave their lives to the Gospel. He invited everyone to bring this inspiration to their daily lives, opening up to the needs of the world and, in particular, to those of Tarragona.
