The project of the new covered municipal swimming pool of Olot

A new infrastructure for the city

Olot City Council is in the final phase of drafting and designing the new municipal indoor pool, which is scheduled to begin construction this fall. However, it is not expected to start operating until the summer of 2026. Although the foundation stone has not yet been laid, the council is already clear about the services and functionality that the new equipment must have.

Decisions taken and local implications

One of the decisions already taken is that school swimming courses will not take place in the new indoor pool. According to the mayor of Olot, Pep Berga, swimming lessons should continue to be carried out at the Olot Swimming Club, as this has the experience, the instructors and the capacity to host these courses. This would also prevent the municipal pool from becoming overcrowded at certain times and would allow retired people who want to go swimming to not find the pool full of schools.

However, the council defends that the new indoor pool will have directed activities, designed from the point of view of health, not competition. This approach is aimed at people who need to exercise for health reasons, such as the elderly or those who have undergone operations and need physical exercise.

Characteristics and cost of the new equipment

Olot’s new indoor swimming pool will be the first in the city, as the only one currently existing is that of the Olot Swimming Club. It is expected that this new equipment will cost more than five million euros and will have a large water bowl of 25 x 16.5 meters, eight lanes and a smaller complementary pool of 16.5 x 8.5 meters .
